We produce differently – and there’s a reason for that
How we handle availability, returns & stock levels
You’re browsing our online shop, find your absolute favorite piece – and then this: sold out in your size. We know how frustrating that can be, especially when you’ve already fallen in love with the color, cut, and material. That’s why we’d like to explain today why this sometimes happens when shopping with us.
Why we don’t do re-productions
At Matona, we intentionally work differently than large fashion brands. Our collections are 100% self-financed, without investors behind the scenes. This means: Every piece is carefully planned, in a quantity that we can oversee and sell responsibly.
A re-order would be very labor-intensive for us – and our small team: new coordination with producers, organizing the supply chain, warehouse logistics, minimum order quantities… all of this is not easily manageable for a company like ours.
Less stock – more sustainability
We produce once per season. This means: At the beginning of each season, all items arrive at our own warehouse – one part goes to our retailers, the other goes into our online shop. And when an item is sold out, it is really sold out.
Our goal is to have as little leftover stock as possible at the end of each season. Because this saves resources – and ensures that we only produce what is actually needed.
Unlike large brands, we don’t factor in overproduction just to have a big sale later. Of course, it can still happen that some styles don’t sell as well, or certain sizes are left over – that’s just part of it.
To avoid building up an unnecessarily large stock and to finance the next collection ourselves, these products eventually end up in the sale. Not because they are worth less – but because they make room for something new.

New: The back-in-stock notification for sold-out sizes
Because we know it’s often disappointing when a particular item is no longer available, we’ve introduced something new for you:
For every sold-out product, you can enter your email address.
If the sold-out item becomes available again, you’ll be notified immediately – giving you a chance to grab it.
Although we (thankfully!) have a low return rate, some items do get returned. And often, it’s exactly the size that someone else is looking for.
Our Tip: Sign up if you’re missing an item
Signing up for the notification is quick, and you’ll only receive an email if your desired item is truly back in stock. Simply click on “Notify me” on the product page, enter your email address – and that’s it!
We hope this new feature makes the waiting a little easier – and maybe you’ll even be able to meet your favorite piece after all.
