Why we love linen

Linen is and remains one of our favorite fabrics that is regularly used in our collections. But why actually?
It is nature in its purest form - durable, breathable, antibacterial, heat-regulating and timeless: linen. Of all fabric types, it is one of the most sustainable and skin-friendly materials.

Linen has been used to make clothing for thousands of years - including by the ancient Egyptians. The reason for its success is the relative ease of cultivation and the versatility of the flax plant from which linen is derived. Under the right conditions, flax requires little water, no pesticides or fertilizers, and waste is also not generated during production. All parts of the flax plant can be recycled: the fibers and seeds are made into cloth, paper, varnish, oil, animal feed, and bio-material. The roots, which remain in the field, fertilize and clean the soil for the next season.
The fibers, their sustainable cultivation and production make linen naturally hypoallergenic. Means the fabrics are wonderful for people with allergies and sensitive skin. In addition, linen fabrics are breathable, stain resistant and antibacterial. Due to its heat-regulating and sweat-wicking properties, linen is popular for summer clothing. However, it also has a warming effect at low temperatures, ideal for fresh summer nights and cool autumn and winter days.

Antibacterial

Linen neutralizes unpleasant odors, reduces inflammation and at the same time is resistant to bacteria and fungi - ideal for people with allergies.

Cooling

Linen fabrics can absorb up to 20% of their own weight in sweat, water or other liquids without feeling wet or clammy. At the same time, this effect also provides optimal cooling: the fabric absorbs moisture from the air and exchanges it with the surrounding air.

Durable

Linen is particularly durable and tear-resistant. Our garments made of linen thus lasts for many years and can also be passed on to the next generation.
Linen is a durable and proven material and therefore should not be missing in any closet. The best thing about it: it is one of the few materials that become more beautiful with age and thus can be used for generations. Added bonus: with wear and every wash, linen fabrics become softer, smoother and begin to shimmer slightly.

For our linen garments we use only high quality linen, certified according to.strict social and environmental guidelines. All collections are then dyed, cut, sewn and finished by our partners in small family-run businesses in Portugal.
