Materials

A product is only as good as the raw materials it is made from. That is why we choose all fibres and materials for our products with great care. It is important to us that all Matona garments are made from sustainable and/or renewable fibres.
01

Organic Cotton

We have always used 100% organic cotton, certified to strict social and environmental standards. This means that our cotton is grown without monocultures, harmful chemicals or genetic manipulation. In addition, the sustainable and gentle cultivation is particularly resource-efficient: up to 91% of water can be saved when growing organic cotton compared to regular cotton.
02

Linen

Linen is nature in its purest form and has many benefits. It is durable, lightweight, breathable, anti-bacterial, temperature regulating and timeless. It is also one of the most sustainable and skin-friendly fabrics in the world. When grown in the right conditions, flax requires very little water and no fertilisers or pesticides. In addition, all parts of the flax plant can be used: Fibres and seeds are processed into textiles, paper, paint, oil, animal feed and organic material. The roots remain in the field, cleaning and fertilising the soil for the next season.
03

Recycled Wool

Keeping it in the loop - most of our winter knitwear is made from a soft and cosy recycled wool blend sourced in Italy. The reason is simple: by using recycled wool from yarn and fabric waste, we extend the life of a fibre that has already been produced. Recycled polyamide and Viscose are then added to increase the strength of the yarn and the durability of the garment.

04

ECONYL®

Dive into the water with a clear conscience? ECONYL®, a regenerated nylon yarn, makes it possible. This innovative material from Italy is made from old fishing nets and carpets and can be recycled after use. Instead of extracting nylon from crude oil in an energy-intensive process, Econyl uses nylon waste, saving 90 per cent of the climate-damaging CO2 emissions released during the production of conventional new material.

05

Alpaca & Merino Wool

Dyed by nature - Our most luxurious fibre is made from the finest alpaca and merino wool and is spun without the use of dyes or additives. The variety of colours is based on the different coat colours of sheep and alpacas. In a complex process, the different coloured fibres are sorted by colour and then blended into new mélanges, preserving the natural softness of the wool and avoiding the use of chemical dyes and excessive use of water.

Colors

A big part of the fashion industry is dyeing. Usually this process is characterised by chemicals and heavy pollution. That is why at Matona we only use GOTS certified dyes, which are more strictly controlled and less harmful than conventional synthetic dyes. Among other things, GOTS certified dyes must meet a number of toxicity and biodegradability requirements. This means that toxic heavy metals, functional nanoparticles and formaldehyde are completely excluded from the ingredients.
